Diamond is a girl’s best friend; Diamond is forever – there could be so many phrases that can talk loud about this shiny stone. Being the hardest substance known on the face of the earth, this has not only found its home resting in expensive ornaments but it is used for industrial cutting works as well. The way it is naturally found and the look that it has after being cut and cleared – would amaze you. Therefore, would be its journey starting from the geologists on their diamond exploration drives till the time it gets to a jeweler.

The recent movie “Blood Diamond” released in 2006 is an exemplary way to know about the dirt behind this shiny stone. Not only the diamond exploration and mining is a challenge but also the fortune that this stone is worth could cause feuds. What was shown in Blood Diamond though was a dramatized version but the fact that was inspired by reality can’t be ignored.

The diamond was first explored in 1867 in South Africa, in Cape Colony. This has been and is the major supplier of this priceless stone. These as per the scientists are the results of volcanoes. A continues supply of the same has made this shiny stone available to people all around the world. The Crater of Diamonds is the oldest mine in the North America.

John Wesley Huddleston, in 1906 purchased a farming land and discovered two prices of stone one day. Once these were sent to the Little Rock Jeweler, which from there was forwarded to Tiffany's in New York certified these as diamond. The land their off was sold for $36,000.

There are huge companies like De Beers, Tiffany etc. These would have their own mines and would take care of the process starting from diamond exploration to the time it is polished and designed for the customers.
